Friday night & they had live music. Was pretty loud, even though we sat as far away from them as we could. They start you out with warm corn bread muffins & honey butter. Our wait person was very attentive and efficient. Ordered a full rack of ribs (just a little on the dry side), fried catfish (perfect amount of dredge & nicely fried) fried chicken and a brisket plate - so moist and yummy. The sides we ordered; fries (were super crisp & delicious), coleslaw, beans, veggies were all good. The hush puppies however, not so much. A bit gloppy on the inside - although fried nicely on the outside. Our waitstaff was really good (sorry forgot her name), but had a tat that said "0kie dokie arti-chokie" was really wonderful. Drinks were kept replenished and got extra corn bread muffins too! Will be back!

I love BBQ, especially beef ribs. I think I've been to Felix's before, but not this location. Came for lunch on Sunday afternoon. I wanted the beef ribs, of course, but I "settled" for brisket. The starter cornbread was great, I didn't even need butter, and I'm glad they had unsweetened iced tea. The brisket was great. Enough to take home, and I just finished it tonight. The baked beans were terrific. The collard greens were outstanding. So good I might have just had those and skipped the meat - but who am I kidding? I'll have all three again! Staff was friendly, place was clean. I'll be back! I don't usually just toss out five stars but they deserved it.

I've been coming here since they opened up the first location in Oceanside. The food is always good. Love the hot link and gumbo. Staffing can be short at time so there can be a wait at the San Marcos location but they are super nice and they have gotten better about turning down the music at the San Marcos location.

I ordered a bowl of gumbo expecting just the stew, but it came with too much rice on the bottom, it absorbed all the soup... It was before close I went in to pick it up, and the was too salty even with lots of rice... I do like this place; therefore 4 stars and not 5.

Wow, wow, wow! So delicious! Highly recommend. The cornbread muffins are a whole other level- you have to have them. I had the tri-tip and the hubby had the ribs. It was incredible! The only tweak we would make is less sugar. Seemed like there was sugar on everything. The bbq sauce was sweet, the ribs had a sweetness to them, the fries had a sugary taste, I mean everything was on the sweet side. While it was interesting to taste, sometimes keeping it savory is a better option.

I tried the lunch box special and it was a good deal! Ribs, fries and Mac & cheese were a a good choice. Service was good and employees were nice. The fried catfish was crispy and tasty. They are located in a plaza with lots of parking. Restrooms are available. Apple Pay, Card, and Tap to pay is accepted. They have fans and it gets warm inside the restaurant.

Warmly greeted. Plenty of self-seating inside. We ordered family style with four adults: Full Rack Baby Back Ribs with Baked Beans and Sweet Potato Fries as sides with each single entree; Beef Brisket Platter with a Large Collard Greens. All BBQ was delicious and tender with or without extra sauce -- but the sauce is tasty. The greens were a hit, but saltier than I'm used to. I'll skip the fries and opt for more greens next time. To satisfy our sweet tooth, we shared a couple of Peach Cobblers. Nothing special, TBH. It was "lukecold." It seemed like something thrown together out of the fridge. Odd. I'll skip dessert next time and go elsewhere. Service was pleasant but could be more attentive with the drink refills. Large public parking lot out front.

It's been a good decade since I was at the Felix's out in Oceanside. I remember liking the barbecue, but being disappointed in the sides. This time around, while checking out the one in San Marcos, I came thinking I would try the same to see if I enjoyed the fare a bit more. Starting with the Corn Bread, it was perfectly moist and sweet. Kernels of corn give it a good chew. And there's no extraneous cheese or peppers in there to overcomplicate things. Honestly, can't make corn bread much better than this. For an appetizer, I had a cup of the Seafood Gumbo. This was the one part of the meal that was a bit underwhelming. The roux wasn't as rich as I was expecting and aside from a single shrimp, there wasn't much more meat in it. This was likely caused by getting a cup over a more substantial bowl, but it was still only a mildly tasty disappointment. Instead of barbecue, I couldn't help but opt for the Southern Smothered Oxtails. These were brilliant. A rich gravy, sweetened by onions and garlic, the meat was tender, gelatinous, and easily sucked off the bone in fleshy and lightly chewy chunks. My only gripe would be that I think I would have liked some red wine to have been in there with that sauce ... though I think I'm in the wrong region's cuisine for that. On the side were some perfect mashed potatoes and Fried Green Tomatoes. The latter were surprisingly juicy, not that good on their own, but the breading and remoulade on the side made them a tasty treat. In the end, my trip to Felix's was much better this time around. Yes, I still haven't tried the barbecue from the San Marcos shop, which is what I should be trying. But, the oxtails alone make this worth coming back for another go around.
